Diaphragm as a Diuretic

Author(s):

Rasheem J Northington

Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) is released by the posterior pituitary. Itregulates facultative water reabsorption by increasing the waterpermeability of principal cells in the last part of the distal convoluted tubuleand throughout the collecting duct. In the absence of ADH, the apicalmembranes of principal cells have a very low permeability to water. Withinprincipal cells are tiny vesicles containing many copies of a water channelprotein known as aquaporin-2.
